Divya Chauwan (she/her) is currently studying at SUNY Brockport, majoring in Political Science and International Studies, with minors in Legal Studies and Sociology. Her commitment to social justice is deeply rooted in her personal history. Born in a refugee camp, Divya and her family sought asylum in the United States in 2009 after fleeing ethnic cleansing and apartheid. This background has profoundly shaped her dedication to fighting against injustice. A year ago, Divya joined GCRPPB. Her work with GCRPPB has been transformative, providing her with a deeper understanding of her heritage and the struggles her community has endured. It has also highlighted the resilience and strength of her people, further fueling her passion for advocacy. In addition to her role at GCRPPB, Divya is actively involved in several campus organizations at SUNY Brockport, including the Political Science Club and the International Student Association. She has also interned with local legal aid societies and non-governmental organizations, gaining valuable experience in advocacy and policy-making. Divya aspires to pursue a career in international law, focusing on refugee rights and humanitarian aid. Her personal experiences, combined with her academic achievements and professional endeavors, position her as a promising advocate for global justice and human rights.
